Puree Bar - Baby Don't Like Boring
As part of our baby food puree series, we now bring you a tropical twist. We started with the Sweety Reidy, TSF's answer to typical apple sauce. Now we offer up a bit of the Caribbean as we turn toward fall. Pulse up a Mango Mojito - Dads just have to add rum.
Purees are a sure fire way to introduce babies and toddlers to new fruits and vegetables. They ensure that they get the nutrients they need with a pleasing texture while allowing them to test out new flavors. Once you give them a puree that they like, we then try to break it down to the whole foods, which in the case of the Mango Mojito, would have us giving them sliced whole mango and sliced banana separately. As you discover the fruits that your child likes, you can forge ahead with your own blends. Making your own baby food is a great way to not only get to know your child but to encourage them to try new and healthy foods. Mango Mojito - Makes up to 12 ounces *1 Ripe Mango, skinned, flesh cut from the core *1/2 banana *Juice from half a lime, approximately 1 TBSP (vary the amount if lime is too tart) *1/4 cup loosely packed mint leaves *1/4 cup water (to be used if mixture is too thick) - Put all ingredients, except for the lime juice and water, in a clean food processor
- Begin pureeing and add the lime juice in via the top
- Mixture should be slightly thinner than applesauce, closer to the texture of salsa
- If too thick add some filtered water to the mix
- Serve
TSF Food Tip: Like with all baby foods, make it in advance, portion it in 4 oz jars, and have it ready for the week. Good for up 5 days. |
